Thrikkannapuram Sree Krishnaswamy Temple

The Sanctum of Divinity

The enigmatic Thrikannapuram is a locale steeped in duality and devotion, where the realms of Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva converge. Embracing the dual interpretations of its name, Thrikannapuram serves as the 'Puram' where Thiruvaya Kanna (Krishna) and Trikanna (Shiva) reside, harmoniously presiding over the tranquil banks of Karamanayar.

Nestled amidst the picturesque terrains that stretch between Tirumala and Pappanam Kodi, the Thrikannapuram Srikrishna Swamy Temple is a mere seven kilometers from the bustling heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. Here, the divine essence, the Bhagavad Chaitanya, flourishes with each passing day, nurturing the spiritual and material prosperity of Ananthapuri’s denizens, with blessings manifold for those who seek solace and offer prayers within its sacred precincts.

Architecturally blessed by its natural setting, the temple is sited on east-sloping land by a north-flowing river, an auspicious location as per Vastu Shastra. Within its hallowed chambers stands a venerable stone idol of Lord Sri Krishna, known as Santana Gopala Murthy, whose presence as Chaturbahu has watched over the centuries.

The temple’s lineage traces back to the revered Koopakara Maths, echoing the sanctity of the ancient Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple. The monks of Koopakara, once advisors to monarchs on spiritual and temple affairs, continue to preserve the legacy of their forebears. A divine vision bestowed upon the chief Poti, where Lord Krishna manifested as Guruvayurappan, guided the establishment of this temple—a sanctuary envisioned to reign alongside the celestial Radha, akin to the sacred river Yamuna.

Erected between two enchanting hills, flanking the serene Karamanayar, the twin temples dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva are more than mere structures; they are revered as the foundational stones for the region’s salvation and prosperity. Today, the temple’s grandeur is magnified by the daily rites and fervent worship, positioning it as a cornerstone of spiritual heritage and a testament to the enduring tapestry of faith in Thrikannapuram.
